Lore & Background

Kagaya Ubuyashiki leads the Demon Slayer Corps as its 97th leader, a position inherited from his family who established the organization. His bloodline carries a curse due to being distant relatives of Muzan, causing a disease that kills them before age thirty. Despite his physical frailty, he commands the respect of all Demon Slayers through his gentle yet firm demeanor. He is married to Amane Ubuyashiki, who was chosen by a priest to marry him and agreed to care for him on her own accord. Together they have five children: twin daughters Hinaki and Nichika, son Kiriya, and twin daughters Kuina and Kanata. Kagaya's leadership is defined by his dedication to the Corps' mission of protecting humanity from demons.

In Their Own Story

Kagaya's final act is a calculated sacrifice to weaken Muzan Kibutsuji. Knowing his cursed bloodline makes him a target, he orchestrates a suicide bombing of the Ubuyashiki estate. He exploits Muzan's sadistic pleasure in listening to his last words before supposedly killing him, using that moment to detonate the explosion. His wife Amane stays with him and dies in the blast, as do their eldest daughters Hinaki and Nichika, who served as his aides during Hashira meetings. After his death, his son Kiriya becomes his successor, commanding the Demon Slayer Corps in the final battle against Muzan and his forces.

Reader's Guide

Kagaya Ubuyashiki serves as the spiritual and strategic leader of the Demon Slayer Corps. Though physically weakened by the curse afflicting his bloodline, he commands absolute loyalty from the Hashira and all slayers. His leadership style combines gentleness with firm resolve, earning him deep respect. He delegates authority to his wife Amane, who takes his place during Hashira meetings when he cannot attend. His children also assist: Hinaki and Nichika serve as his aides, while after his death, Kiriya leads the Corps alongside his surviving sisters Kuina and Kanata. Kagaya's ultimate contribution is his suicide bombing strategy, which exploits Muzan's personality to create an opening for the final assault. Following Muzan's death, Kiriya officially disbands the Demon Slayer Corps, as their mission has been accomplished.
