He asked no lessons on swordplay; instead, he begged to hear stories of Yoriichi's life, family, and sorrow. Realizing he could never wield a blade like Yoriichi, Sumiyoshi memorized the Sun Breathing technique by watching it performed as exercise. He transformed these lethal combat forms into a seasonal dance, believing that if he could not save the world with steel, he would at least keep its memory alive. This ritual became the Hinokami Kagura passed down through his bloodline to Tanjiro Kamado. When Yoriichi died alone and heartbroken, Sumiyoshi was one of the few who truly understood the burden of the Sun Breath's legacy.
